SILVER JEWELRY CARE GUIDE

Sterling silver naturally tarnishes over time, but it can easily be restored to its original shine using a silver polishing cloth. If one was not included with your jewelry, it can be purchased at supermarkets or jewelry stores.

To minimize oxidation, avoid contact with lotions, perfumes, and other chemicals.

We recommend removing your jewelry before sleeping or engaging in physical activity. Exposure to harsh chemicals or environments may damage the surface and shine of your jewelry.

Protect both silver and gold-plated jewelry from sweat, cleaning agents, chlorine, and salt water.

MORE ABOUT JEWELRY CARE

At Still life, we source quality metals and use high-quality gold vermeil plating.

To extend the life of your jewelry, allow it to rest occasionally and protect it from moisture and creams.

When not in use, gently wipe your jewelry with a soft cloth and store it in a dry, safe place to prevent scratching.

STERLING SILVER

925 sterling silver is an alloy made of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% copper.

Our silver jewelry is plated with silver and, in some cases, rhodium to enhance shine and durability. Rhodium is one of the most expensive precious metals due to its rarity.

To maintain quality and prevent premature damage, please follow these tips:

* Store jewelry in the provided pouch or box when not in use

* Avoid sweat

* Clean only with a soft cloth or a silver polishing cloth

* Do not sleep while wearing jewelry

* Avoid chemicals, especially hand creams or alcohol-based products

* Avoid bathing, showering, or washing hands while wearing jewelry

* Allow creams to fully absorb before putting on jewelry

* Water-sensitive jewelry: avoid water exposure, as silver oxidizes over time

Natural oils from your skin can help slow down oxidation, so wearing your jewelry regularly can be beneficial. When not worn, store it properly to limit exposure to air.

GOLD-PLATED JEWELRY

It is important to store jewelry in a dry and clean environment, as the gold layer on the surface may become damaged. The durability of plating varies individually.

At Still life, we use high-quality gold vermeil plating (2–5 microns) with 14k and 18k gold.

Avoid contact with cleaning agents, soap, and cosmetics.

To maintain the longevity and appearance of gold-plated jewelry:

* Remove before bathing, showering, washing dishes, or similar activities involving water

* Protect from hard objects — jewelry is delicate and can be scratched or damaged

* Surface changes may occur in individuals with more acidic sweat or those taking certain medications

* Sleeping, sports, or physical activity may cause mechanical damage

PEARLS

Pearls are organic gemstones and require delicate care. To prevent cracking and maintain their luster, follow the rule:

Last on, first off.

Cosmetics and chemicals:

Perfumes, hairsprays, creams, and makeup contain substances that damage the pearl surface (nacre) and cause dullness.

Moisture and water:

Never wear pearls while swimming (pool, sea, or shower). Chlorine and salt dry them out and weaken the silk thread, which may stretch or break.

Dryness and heat:

Pearls need to “breathe.” Do not store them in airtight plastic bags or near heat sources. Excessive dryness can cause cracking and yellowing.

Mechanical damage:

Pearls are soft. Store them separately in a fabric pouch to prevent scratching from other jewelry.

Beauty tip:

Pearls benefit from contact with your skin. The natural moisture of your body helps maintain their hydration and shine. After wearing, simply wipe them gently with a soft dry cloth.

SILVER-PLATED BRASS JEWELLERY:

Silver-plated brass jewellery may naturally darken or subtly change its surface over time. This process can be accelerated by contact with sulfates (e.g. in sweat, cosmetics, or air) or by improper storage (such as in boxes containing adhesives).

Tarnishing is not permanent and can be easily removed by gently polishing with a cloth intended for silver jewelry.

The silver-plated surface may gradually wear with regular use, especially with frequent exposure to water, sweat, or friction. This is not a defect, but a natural characteristic of the material.

To help slow this process, we recommend avoiding contact with water, perfumes, and chemicals, removing the jewelry before showering, exercising, or sleeping, and storing it in a dry place.
